The interior design contrasts this grounded mass with a delicate, immersive atmosphere. A palette of deep woods, soft textiles, and muted dark colors evokes the sensation of entering a ritual space — a tinkuy (encounter point) between body, sound, and architecture. Indirect lighting plays a central role, using warm tones to mimic the phases of the moon and creating gradients of shadow and calm.
Acoustic performance was carefully studied through the use of textured wall panels, heavy curtains, and upholstered surfaces, all of which contribute to a warm, resonant sound environment. Spatial circulation was restructured to create smooth, uninterrupted transitions — from public to private, from light to darkness, from outside to inside.
The project also includes custom-designed furniture that echoes the geometry and materiality of the overall design. Circular and elliptical shapes refer to lunar forms, while the use of raw wood and felt connects to local materials and craft traditions.
KUU is not only a performance venue — it’s a spatial and emotional journey. Through careful attention to form, material, and light, the theatre becomes a vessel for storytelling, reflection, and encounter. A contemporary space with deep Andean roots, it invites the user to pause, listen, and feel.

KUU is a comprehensive architectural intervention that reimagines both the interior and exterior of a small-scale theatre, transforming it into a meditative and sensory space. The name KUU, meaning “moon” in Finnish, reflects the project’s conceptual grounding in silence, transition, and cyclical rhythms — ideas deeply tied to both lunar symbolism and Andean cosmology.
The exterior of the building is designed as a monolithic, almost sacred volume. Stone cladding in dark, textured tones gives the structure a strong presence while anchoring it into the landscape — a gesture that resonates with pre-Columbian stone constructions, where architecture blends with earth and memory. Openings are intentionally minimal and controlled, creating an atmosphere of mystery and focus, where the architecture invites you inward.
